The first WOMEX newsletter has been published

Within the framework of the project WOMEXpublication of the first newsletter entitled “Our First Steps Towards Gender-Responsive Internationalisation”, which provides an overview of previous activities and steps in improving gender equality in public policies supporting exports and international business

WOMEX is a European initiative co-financedthrough the program Interreg Europee, with the aim of integrating a gender perspective in public policies supporting internationalization, increasing the participation of women in the management and ownership structures of export-oriented SMEs, as well as strengthening their competitiveness in international markets.

The project brings together partners from Lithuania, Serbia, Poland, Austria, Hungary, the Basque Country and Catalonia, while the role of lead partner is ACTION — Catalonia Trade & Investment.Activities are realized through continuous coordination of partners, cooperation with regional actors and organization of interregional events for exchange of knowledge and improvement of public policies (Interregional Policy Learning Events — IPLE).

The first IPLE was held in Barcelona on the theme “Women and internationalization”, with the participation of all partner regions and stakeholders. The event included interactive work sessions, policy discussions and SWOT a workshop dedicated to the role of the public sector in the promotion of gender equality in internationalization processes. An example of good practice by a Catalan SME that successfully integrates a gender perspective in its business is also presented.

In the coming period, two important events are planned:

  • Warsaw (25-26. February 2026)— focus on access to finance for export-oriented enterprises led by women;
  • Hungary (21—23. April 2026)— presentation of regional mappings and comparative inter-regional analysis.

During the first months of implementation, a promotional video in which the partners present their motives for participating in the project and the expected results.

In the future, the project WOMEXfocus on looking at the impact of gender inequalities on the competitiveness of export-oriented SMEs and preparing concrete recommendations for improving support policies. The ultimate goal is to permanently include a gender perspective in international development strategies and in instruments of institutional support for businesses.
