Siniša Mali: With the development strategy, we are building a modern and sustainable city

The Mayor of Belgrade Siniša Mali said at the presentation of the Strategy for the Development of the City of Belgrade until 2021 that this document defines the mission and vision of the development of Belgrade in the next four years and includes the construction of an urban, cosmopolitan, open, sustainable and developed city.

The event was attended by the President of the City Assembly Nikola Nikodijević, Deputy Mayor Andreja Mladenović, Assistant Mayors Borko Milosavljević and Slobodan Milosavljević, members of the City Council. councils, city secretaries, representatives of the City Administration and directors of public companies.

Mali pointed out that the Strategy adopted at today's session of the City Council, upon adoption by the City Assembly, will become a binding document for all those involved in running Belgrade. In this sense, the mayor stated, we will all have to adhere to the methodology, principles, standards and goals that we must achieve for the benefit of the city of Belgrade and our fellow citizens.

- Today at the session of the City Council, we adopted a very important document, the Strategy for the Development of the City of Belgrade until 2021. The emphasis is on several important things, first of all on improving the quality of life of our fellow citizens, which implies the continuation of work on infrastructure. There is also the continuation of economic development, the reduction of the number of unemployed, so that in the shortest period of time we can have as many open factories and companies in the territory of the city as possible - said the mayor.

Mali added that the third important point is the training and education of the citizens of Belgrade, which will be based on new technologies, innovations and knowledge because, as he said, we must prepare for the times to come and all the global challenges that await us.

- The fourth is the increase in energy efficiency and ecology, which is very important for us because we want to create a greener, more humane and healthier city. Increasing energy efficiency means taking care of all the resources available to the city, and at the same time including renewable energy sources, in order to get closer to the standards that apply to major world metropolises - emphasized Mali.

According to him, the fifth important item is the development of pedestrian zones and changes in traffic priorities.

- According to those plans, priority will be given to pedestrians and cyclists, followed by public transport, and finally cars. That is why the Strategy includes the construction of hundreds of kilometers of bicycle paths, closing the city center to traffic and turning it into a pedestrian zone - the mayor added.

Mali pointed out that the completion of the project of lowering Belgrade to the rivers should not be forgotten. Finally, Mali claims, the key and priority of this strategy are people, a responsible and transparent City Administration that communicates with citizens.

- This document is very important, because a large number of people and institutions have been working on it for two years, and with it we show citizens, publicly and transparently, in which direction Belgrade will develop. Only after that, through concrete measures and indicators, can we see whether we have succeeded in all these intentions - said Mali.

He added that, in parallel with the Belgrade Development Strategy, 18 strategies for the development of public and public utility companies are being adopted.

- All 18 already have long-term plans for the next five or 10 years. In this way, we can monitor the work of all directors of public companies, what was planned and what was not. This is a big change in our city and I am very proud of this document, as well as of all the people who worked on it - Mali concluded.
