The online final event of the international ISTER project was held

On Tuesday, December 13, 2022, the final online event of the international project ISTER was held! More than 80 participants from different countries of the Danube region took part.

During this online event, the most significant results of the ISTER project were presented and shared experiences gained during the implementation of the project, as well as the impressions of project partners and other event participants.

At the beginning of the event, the ISTER project manager, Sebastian Bonis, summarized the goals and results of the ISTER project, as well as the challenges faced by the ISTER project consortium during the implementation of the project. He emphasized the importance and contribution of each project partner for the successful realization of project activities.

Blaž Barborič in front of the Geodetic Institute of Slovenia presented the virtual ISTER GIS Atlas, a database of Roman roads and settlements along the Danube, from its source in the forest of Crnoje to the mouth of the Black Sea, and emphasized the importance of digitization and new technologies in the presentation of cultural heritage.

Clemens Bayer from BOKU University from Vienna demonstrated how the VIA ISTER application, an interactive online tool for researching the eco-cultural VIA ISTER route, intended for everyone who wants to get to know the rich Roman cultural heritage of the Danube region, works.

Anka Virginas from the National History Museum of Transylvania presented the ISTER miljokaze - info boards modeled on Roman signposts, which the Romans once used to mark their own roads, which will also mark the VIA ISTER route along the Danube.

Steven Halligan, representative of the Danube Transnational Program in charge of monitoring the implementation of the ISTER project, addressed the event participants and praised the successful implementation of the project in a challenging period accompanied by the COVID pandemic, and presented new opportunities for future projects within the Interreg program.

At the end of the session, the ISTER project manager, Sebastijan Bonis, emphasized the desire and plan of ISTER project partners to continue cooperation in the future, even after the official end of the ISTER project.
