With more than 4 million euros, the EU supports the social inclusion of the most vulnerable people in Serbia

The delegation of the European Union in Serbia has announced a call for proposals within the project "Support for social inclusion of the most vulnerable groups, including Roma, through a more diverse offer of social services at the local community level" which is financed from EU pre-accession funds.

The grant scheme worth 4.35 million euros aims to improve social inclusion and reduce poverty among members of the most vulnerable and poorest social groups. In cooperation with the Ministry of Labour, Employment and Social Policy, the EU Delegation will hold information sessions in Belgrade, Niš and Užice.

The project aims to improve the social inclusion of the most vulnerable groups by providing sustainable social services at the local community level; improving the position of Roma through initiatives for their active social inclusion; improving the efficient use of funds through cooperation with partners and other actors involved in providing support to vulnerable groups, as well as encouraging and improving inter-municipal cooperation (through the so-called "group approach") in the provision of social services.

The total amount of funds allocated to this project is 4,350,000 euros, and it is divided into two parts:

  • Part one: Social services at the level of local communities

o Budget: 2,900,000 euros

o Amount of grants: from 100,000 to 300,000 euros

o potential applicants: civil society organizations from Serbia and other countries that meet the requirements, local governments and public institutions engaged in the field of social protection.

Applicants should, through their actions, contribute to the strengthening of existing services or the establishment of new ones, to to propose new modalities or to combine existing ones, in order to improved efficiency and effectiveness.

  • Part Two: Initiatives dedicated to the active inclusion of Roma

o Budget: 1,450,000 euros

o Amount of grants: from 60,000 to 500,000 euros

o Potential applicants: civil society organizations from Serbia and other countries that meet the requirements, public institutions belonging to the social protection sector, independent government bodies belonging to the relevant sectors, public institutions from the health, education and culture sectors, public companies, local governments and international organizations.

Applicants should aim to improve human resources and employability through providing support for education, increasing employment and strengthening entrepreneurship, as well as encouraging local communities or local civil society organizations (CSOs) to play a more active role in the decision-making process concerning the development of the local economy.
