Flick through the fourth newsletter and learn more about the activities of the ISTER project! The focus of this newsletter is two publications created as a result of the work of ISTER project partners, as well as the presentation of the winners of the ISTER international award competition!
The first scientific publication "Roman roads and borders of the Roman Empire along the Danube" is based on the results and findings of the research work of the team of the National History Museum of Transylvania, the leading partner of the ISTER project, which conducted a series of field surveys in several countries in order to identify the preserved remains of Roman roads, future parts of the ISTER route of Roman roads along the Danube. Using modern and non-invasive techniques such as aerial photography, LIDAR scanning and magnetometry, the effectiveness of these methods in modern archeology has been demonstrated again.
Second publication, ISTER evaluation tool, is a transnational instrument that was created based on the results of the ISTER strategic and regulatory report on the protection and valorization of the Roman road network and settlements. The aim of this instrument is to motivate and empower ISTER project partners, as well as public institutions and other interested parties in all countries, to research and learn about successful European models, their effects and existing conditions in this sector.
In the previous months, it was successfully implemented ISTER International Award Competition with the aim of identifying the best practices in the fields of protection, preservation, management, promotion, valorization and sustainable use of Roman cultural heritage throughout Europe.
The winners of this international competition were announced during an official ceremony held on February 23, 2022 in the German city Alena, as part of the second ISTER transnational workshop. Awards were given to the best projects in three categories, and the winner in the category Protection and preservation of Roman cultural heritage is the National Museum of Užice from Serbia.
Through the fourth newsletter get to know the ISTER project partners who, with their experience and knowledge contribute to the creation of a new ISTER eco-cultural route of Roman roads and settlements along the Danube. It is in this newsletter that the Regional Agency for Development and European Integration, Belgrade, a project partner from Serbia, is presented.
