City of Belgrade has a special administrative status as well as status and authority of a statistical region. Its territory is divided into 17 municipalities, each with its local authority. Belgrade covers over 3% of the country’s territory and 22% of the country’s population lives in the city. Belgrade is also an economic center of the state.
